Genesis 2:18-25

18 The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."

19 Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field.
But for Adam [h] no suitable helper was found. 21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs [i] and closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib [j] he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

23 The man said,
"This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called 'woman, [k] '
for she was taken out of man."

24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

25 The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

We are making a big decision really soon, so I am gearing my Bible Study towards marriage and the meaning of it.

This was my passage for Day 1. When I read this I was still a bit confused on how I should apply this to our lives. My Bible has commentary right under the passage and the ones for this passage said how man and women are partners, not one above the other. The author said that there are two roles meeting one goal. That goal is to follow the Lord. The commentary also spoke about how man and woman are to become one.

The one that really spoke out to me was talking about verse 24, the three things needed in marriage: a man is to leave his parents and join in unity with his wife(in a public ceremony according to this guy...ie. the wedding :P) , they are to love each other above all other mates and work for each others well being, and lastly they are to join together in physical intimacy. The author that wrote this also said that a marriage should have all of the above to be a healthy one.
I am meditating on verses 23-24, because this is something that I find to be vital in our marriage and I want to know that we have it.
My Bible is the new living Bible...I copied the above passages from the Bible gateway online.

I just thought I would share...This passage has really touched me on a personal level and it may touch someone else.
God Bless,
